what is wild rose retreat?

First, we are an artist residence. What does that mean? We are a deliberate space for artists and writers to come create and work on their craft. However, you do not need to be an artist or writer to rent from us! We're also a rustic cabin getaway for anyone wanting time away in the woods.

We are situated between Gozzer Ranch and Beauty Bay off Highway 97 in Harrison, Idaho. We are 15 to 20 minutes south of Coeur d'Alene, a vibrant, scenic hub of arts and culture.

This is a one-bedroom cabin with a loft (with two twin beds). We're equipped with a writing desk and chair, a separate studio space, and provisions for those traveling with small children. We also have a full kitchen, wood-burning stove, a back deck, and Starlink Wifi. Outside, the property offers a year-round stream, a footbridge, and hiking trails.

My name is Lorna, and I'm a writer and editor. I got my Masters of Fine Arts (MFA) in Creative Nonfiction from Augsburg University in 2025. I established Wild Rose Retreat because, as a practicing writer with young children at home, I found writers residencies were very limited. They either didn't allow children, happened at certain times of the year which were inconvenient (when the school year was starting, for instance), or both. I was working toward completing a draft of my memoir, while publishing shorter essays and poems along the way. The latter happened, and eventually the former did as well - but not without setting aside dedicated writing time and somehow reaching and finding the energy to devote to my craft. I wish someplace like WRR was around as a creator space. But I don't want to keep this cozy, beautiful, woodsy spot to just artists and writers. It is open to all.
